Rebuilding Paradise: Ontario Annual Dance Festival OIDA (Ontario International Development Agency) in conjuction with RFR organized a dance festival to support the Ontario Village Child & Youth Development Centre in Sri Lanka. This event was held on January 14, 2006 at Lester B Pearson Memorial Theatre attracting a crowd of over 400 from 8 nationalities. RFR organized the event on the day of, collaborating with all the dance groups that performed. This event was attended by the Hon. C S Poolokasingham Counsel General of Sri Lanka and Dr. Ruby Dhalla MP Brampton-Springdale, Ms Shani Kumari Miss India-Canada 2005 also participated as special guests . This event was a great success and will continue on in support of the Child & Youth Developement Centre in upcoming years. |

RFR sandwich day for the homeless On November 25th, 2005 RFR volunteers gave back to the community by feeding over 125 homeless individuals in the downtown core of Toronto. A bag consisting of 2 sandwiches, an apple, 2 chocolates and a water bottle, helped fill many hungry stomachs. City TV tagged along with RFR's worthy efforts and was later aired on City TV news as well as on CP24. Click here for City TV News Serial

Traveling Exhibition Services (TES) 100 Years of Buddhism in Canada art exhibit RFR joined hands with TES, a non-profit organization registered in Canada, to help organize the art exhibit displayed at Robarts Library in the University of Toronto. One of RFR's active members was the Creative Art Director of this exhibit. He displayed several renditions of the Buddhist artwork into beautiful tapestries, like the image above of the Classical Period (3 rd C. BCE to 5 th C. ADE) in Sri Lanka's history. Furthermore, his documentary film of Buddhist art in Sri Lanka was premiered during this event. RFR organized the opening ceremonies, which persisted of a cultural show, as well as organized volunteers to carryout tours during the two weeks the exhibit was open. |

Tsunami awareness and rehabilitation campaign During the time of the 2004 Tsunami, RFR organized the blue and white ribbon campaign to create awareness amongst the Canadian public. After only two weeks of campaigning, RFR collected over $20 000 with the help of various university students within Ontario. Funds were donated to the Canadian Red Cross, as well as to government-approved local charities within the hardest hit countries. Furthermore, packages were sent out to various organizations to make them aware of the current situation, the supplies desperately required, shipping dates for containers being sent to countries, as well as an approved list of organizations sending donations to the effected countries. |
